Actually sitting meditation is something physically rigorous; you who often meditate in sitting position absolutely can relate. Even though you are sitting, you do it still and tune into your body for certain length of time, and you’re likely to be uncomfortable. And sitting in the same position for long periods can start making you antsy. This is when the meditation cushion plays an important role.

The choice, however, is all yours to make, as the support is very similar between those. If you wish to use the cushion for cross-legged sitting, try to sit on a 5-inch-high firm blankets and check where the knees land. Luckily, zafu or zen cushions are both adaptable.
The V-shaped meditation cushion, on the other hand, slants downward. Therefore, it can support your entire leg, thus encouraging your pelvis to tilt forward. This cushion option is also suitable well even for a daily sitting practice. Most people consider this cushion type even comfortable for longer retreats or marathon sitting, as long as it can maintain the spinal curves of the users. In general, if sitting cross-legged on zafu cushion is comfortable enough for you, chances are the V-shaped one can provide the same comfort too.
Last but not least, there is a mini-futon-like meditation cushion called as zabuton. It is wide, rectangular in shape, and filled with cotton with a removable cover. Many people claim zabuton is the much more comfortable choice, and recommended for you who are going to commit to a meditation practice. Simply place zabuton underneath your cushion for extra padding for your knees and ankles so they will not get uncomfortable after a long time.
